Quiz next week
Hey guys,
Next week we will have our final test for the weather unit. It will focus on Air Masses, Fronts. Types of Storms, and Climate vs. Weather. The concepts from previous quizzes are still important in answering the test questions. If you need help or guidance, please ask me. Please review by going to the sites to the right. USA Today has great reviews (as I showed you in class). Start studying now, don't wait!

Upcoming Quiz
There will be a quiz on Monday. It will include all the notes we've discussed on air pressure, winds, and ocean currents. Please see me if you need additional tutoring. As always, the links we used in class are to your right. Please check them out. To see the global winds and ocean currents go to the Earth Visualizations site, hit chapter 24, then the first link for surface currents in the ocean. I'm here to help in any way I can.

Air Pressure and Wind
Now that we know the Earth receives energy unequally from the Sun, lets see how it affects air pressure. Check out the links to the right to see how unequal heating can cause the air pressure to change and create winds at both the local and global levels.

Unequal Heating of the Earth
We have learned that the energy from the Sun is driving the weather systems on Earth. To understand how the Earth receives the energy from the Sun, it helps to "zoom out" into outer space and see it from another point of view. We know land and water do not heat up at the same rate, but there are other reasons the Earth is unequally heated. As a revolving spherical object around the Sun, energy is received differently at every latitude. Click on the season sites to the right to get an idea of what I mean.

Weather Unit
Hey Guys,
I've added some new sites for you to check out.
First, the station model sites. One site explains what the symbols mean (note wind is in knots not mph) The other lets you see the current station models throughout any part of the country.
Next, if you go to the USA Today site you can learn a ton. Under the tap Interactive graphics, there are many tutorials for you to get a better understanding of the weather.
Lastly, please ask me questions. This can be confusing and the best way to clear up your questions is to ask (whether in class or on the blog).
